Shot 96: MY EXPECTOR

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

RUDY JUST EXPECTED that those around him would perform.  He would establish expectations and then trust you to carry them out.  On the other hand, he rarely inspected one’s performance.  Now, for me, and all the others I knew, we felt compelled to meet those expectations.  We felt trust, and we wanted to live up to it.
Well, leaders, what do you think?  Expectations and trust:  Any room to grow there?  People want to know what is expected of them.  They also want to be given a chance to go do it.  Here are their questions:  Will you tell me what you want done?  Will you let me do it?  Actually, they often have a third one and it relates to inspection, but with caution:  Will you tell me how I am doing?  I would say that the third question follows—follows from the first two questions and follows from following an “expector.”
