WHAT’S BETTER THAN A STORY? A true story. You might think I will run out of them some day. Maybe. If I do, It will be a sad day, because stories help generate interest, retention, reflection, and practice.
So, leaders, what stories—true stories—are you generating that help your followers get it? It? Well, the values you are building upon, the principles that yield positive performance, the culture that will sustain. Make a big deal out of something that will live beyond its time so it will be a story that informs and reinforces. How about an example: An operations manager “held over” his entire team to re-package the shipping containers because they needed to reflect the quality and care that went into the manufacture of the products. Do you think the team members ever forgot that day? Do you think they told others about it? Do you think it made a difference in future operations? Stories live.
