Shot 65: FRONT LINES

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

THE NAPOLEONIC WARS saw men marching at each other in straight lines and then firing when accuracy was assured.  Many, many died.  Because I am a rifle, you might imagine me reveling in the feats of the weapons.  Not so.  I marvel at the motivation of the soldiers:  What could it have been?

It’s been reported that Napoleon said that “leaders deal in hope”–hope for something better for the country for which they died.  Think of what motivation can come from believing that you are making something better.  That’s purpose, and purpose propels.  You can “harness” that.  You know, put it to practice and gain from its pull.  Help people harness hope.
