Shot 54: Flip off Safety!?

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

I’VE SEEN IT A HUNDRED TIMES:  A shooter—maybe a hunter—sights in his or her target, takes a deep breath, and then gently squeezes the trigger; but, alas, the “safety” is still “on.”  The trigger won’t move; anticipation is drowned by frustration.  Ugh, such a good opportunity lost, such eagerness thwarted.

Being safe is meritorious.  Playing it safe, might be.  Might not.  Often, to score you have to take a risk.  You want a breakthrough, venture out.  You want a big success, then go for the gold, no holds barred.  Larger than life differences require enormous risk.  Now, just a minute:  You should have something upon which to base your risk for the situation you face.  Perhaps it’s your character, your abilities, your analysis, your team, or your experience.  If you have a foundation, be ready and confident in “taking it off safe.”
