Shot 273: SHOULDER RECOGNITION

–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–

LOOK AT ME!  Sounds childish, no doubt.  So, I have learned not to say it.  But I want to be recognized.  “Look at me.  I’m the dumb rifle that just won you a big prize.”  Okay, I didn’t do it all myself, but a little recognition would be nice.
Recognition defined is the acknowledgement of something’s value.  Leaders get the most credit—often, they deserve it.  But seldom does one reach high without the benefit of others’ shoulders.  To recognize someone is to motivate them.  Ask Fredrick Herzberg who wrote a classic article on motivation.  In it he cited recognition as motivating when extended in a personalized and specific way by a manager.  Makes sense, doesn’t it?
