Shot 225: SEE IT THE SAME

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com.

I HATE DIFFERENCE.  Not any difference.  Actually, I like diversity.  But I hate when difference divides the objective, for instance, when two hunters have different ideas of how to approach a hunt.  It’s good to have different slants on things, but at some point, hunters have to come together and identify the way they will proceed.  They need to see the same plan.
In the leadership world what Shot speaks of is called goal alignment.  For an organization to be successful goals have to align.  If not, the organization has parts that grind against the whole.  Differences must be addressed and resolved.  If a new idea is viable and within the mission, adjustment may be warranted.  But be aware a good idea may run counter to another good idea.  Then, one must be identified and attended to, so all goals align.
