Shot 224: BREAKFAST

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com.

RUDY USUALLY HAD A BIG ONE—breakfast that is.  He deserved it!  After all, breakfast came after three hours of milking cows.  We farm rifles saw a lot.
Peter Drucker had a lot to say about leadership.   Here’s one: “Culture eats strategy for breakfast.”  Culture makes or breaks organizations.  If you’re a leader, you better be working on culture—that mixture of values and action.  You are to be laughed at if you think a list of values sets culture.  No way!  Values have to be lived out to have culture.  The way your people perform says more about your values than any list ever could.  But you can start with a list of values and then work diligently to reinforce actions that demonstrate them.  When the stated values and actions align consistently and repeatedly, you have a well-earned breakfast.
