Shot 200: RIVERS AND RESERVOIRS

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com.

WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE between a river and reservoir?  I got to asking myself that, while tramping about looking for varmints.  I saw both rivers and reservoirs.  The latter is trim but stale.  The former is wild and alive.  The reservoir takes in but does not give out.  At least, not like a river that flows; it gives.
Too many leaders lack joy.  For them it’s all take and no give.  They are reservoirs, not rivers.  When your business is all about you, you might succeed, but you won’t enjoy the success.  Oh, for sure, you have to make it to give it, but if you don’t give, making it will be stale.
