Shot 197: VALUES

Shot 197: VALUES

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com.

I HAD VALUES:  Make things better, not worse; always for good, never for evil; safety every time, reckless never.  Yes, as a rifle—a tool—on the farm I served a high purpose.

Leaders who lack judgement don’t lead well, and they won’t lead long.  Judgement pertains to decision making.  And both are enhanced by values.  Ever heard of Roy Disney?  He was the nephew of Walt, and he said, “When your values are clear to you, making decisions becomes easier.”  That nephew had something there.  Be clear on your values, you’ll make better decisions—and faster ones too.  Your judgement will be renown.  You’ll have followers.  You’ll be leading.
