Shot 156: OWN IT!

Shot 156: OWN IT!

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com.

OWN VS. WHAT?  Well, not owning.  Try renting.  Many a rifle has lived on borrowed time.  They just occupied a spot.  They did not own their lot.  They didn’t take responsibility for their improvement.  Yes, yes, rifles really can’t own things nor can we take on responsibility.  But people, especially leaders, can and should.

What would happen if you owned the responsibility for your development?  What would you do differently?  What would you emphasize?  What would you discipline yourself to do?  Let’s get deliberate.  You would need to identify how you come off relative to key leadership competencies:  Take honest stock of yourself.  You would also need a workable plan for improvement, and you would need a way to calibrate your growth.  What’s common here?  You.  You have to own the process.
