IN MY DAY I saw a team of horses. Yep, two or more horses that pulled together were called a team. Farmers, like Rudy, would match horses that worked well together. You see, the best horse may not have been selected if it didn’t team well. It was the ability to synch up throughout a long day’s work that made a reliable, top performing team.
Looks like analogy that applies to the workplace. Indeed, leaders, you may have to pass over the best individual performer to get the team that will deliver—over the long haul, across assorted challenges, and through daily difficulties. What qualities serve teaming? Try trust, humility, commitment, resolve, persistence, and coordination, to name some. I’ll bet you can identify more. It’s not hard when your eyes are on the goal, not the individual flashy fillies or stately studs.
