WHY ARE WE DOING THIS? Why? Why are we going hunting, target shooting, whatever? Okay, I will do what I am told. That is the nature of us tools. But I do it better when I know the reason for the activity. When that reason draws meaning, I am really in, like the time I shot a hog—one shot, clean and sure—so that Rudy could butcher it and provide meat for the hired man for the long winter.
When you identify the reason, for an action, the action becomes more meaningful. When the reason itself is ripe with meaning, you have a powerful motivation. You have positioned the action for engagement. Engaged employees really want to perform, and they find ways to make sure they hit their targets.
