Shot 43: OLD GUN, NEW GUNS

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

I’VE BEEN AROUND!  Yep, that’s one thing about being an old rifle:  I’ve seen a lot of action.  And that gives me immense wisdom.  But who wants it?  Not these new, hotshot guns of the new generation.  No, they go at things their way, and believe me, that way is different…and in some ways it’s better.  After all, smug as they are, they did learn a few things from old firearms like me.

Bless them:  The up-and-comers, that is.  Why not? Leaders who went before carved paths and paved trails on which they could travel.  It’s their role to be unique while building on what was done before.  That’s progress.  Encourage the young bloods.  Help, but give them space, especially when they reflect our values and character.  The future they build is anchored in our past.  Our legacy lies in their success.
