RUDY KEPT HIS WORD. Yep, when my best marksman said he do such and such, it would be done. He wasn’t much for excuses. He did not abide by blame. And, get this, he did not promise—no need. He valued his word and his identity. They were linked.
The first measure of dependability is keeping one’s word. Talk trust, and you’ll soon be talking about being faithful to what you say. Try character? Yep, keeping your word shows up again. Who can say anything negative about keeping one’s word? It comes up positive in every context. How about the opposite: not keeping one’s word? No leader there.
