Shot 162: BLINK

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com.

YOU GOTTA FOCUS!  Sometimes a shooter gets glassy eyed.  It happens when he or she is wide-eyed and staring down a barrel through the end sights.  The image is there but its fogged or watery.  Shooters think they are focusing but the squishy image means a tiny degree off and that at the target translates into a big miss.  Shooters need to get their bearings.  They need to blink once or twice to clear the eyes—the aiming eye, that is.  Aaah, focus that is true.
Without focus you are a sorry leader.  To what are you then leading?  I’ll tell you:  a big miss.  Okay, maybe it’s a little miss, but a miss it still is.  In most challenges, you can’t be distracted and win.  Winning is your goal.  Focus means you have set your sights well and will likely win indeed.  Anything that detracts from focus must be removed:  multiple goals, extraneous projects, pet programs.  Are you getting the picture?  Have you blinked.
