Shot 116: SPEAK SOFTLY

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

“…AND CARRY A BIG STICK.”  You, of course, know who said that.  Bully, for Teddy.  What’s the point of bellicose bluster?  It makes you look like a hunter with no bacon, even if you have bacon.  Know what I mean?  I liked to be in the hands of marksmen who did their talkin with their shootin.  If you got the skill, exercise it.
Well, your stick may be a skill.  It could be authority.  Or vision.  Or resources.  Or, any number of things.  Teddy landed the Panama Canal while Congress languished.  Let him be an example.  You see, there’s a time for leaders to lead out, not like a spoiled child, but with confidence that comes from doing the right thing and the capability to get it done.
