— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership. It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all. You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above. —
SO, WHO’S MORE RESPONSIBLE for a sure shot, the rifle or the marksman? Suppose, as the rifle, I say she, the marksman, is more responsible, then I’ve got an “out,” don’t I? And if she says, the rifle is to blame, she’s got an “out.” A mess…that leads to misses. But what if we both say (and believe) that we each are 100% responsible. Aaah, then we each own it and own up. Furthermore, if we both believe we alone are responsible, we each do everything possible to ensure success, even it means compensating for the other.
Confused? It’s the 100% – 0% concept. When we as leaders TOTALLY own a situation, we tend to look for all the things that ensure success. You see, non-leaders accept non-results as long as they can employ excuse or blame. Like this: “Well, if it doesn’t work, at least I have a good excuse.” Or, “at least I have someone to blame.” Thus, in reality, they’ll take an excuse or blame in place of results. Come on! Step up, expand your influence to ensure success. Be proactive to eliminate the chance for misses. Anticipate what could go wrong and act to prevent or mitigate it. Lead responsibly.
