A TEAM IN NAME ONLY is a false team. Last week I spoke of highly productive teams, like Rudy and I were. We worked together to make each other better. We were friends, but our goal was not friendship.
Here’s a big word: Curvilinear. Picture something getting better with more of a component until saturated with it, and then, more yields decreasingly poorer performance. That’s often the case with so-called teams that aim for friendship, relations, cohesiveness. If that becomes the main goal, performance at some point will decline. Team members will be afraid to speak up and to challenge one another. Accountability takes second place. In other words, the reason for having a team in the first place is displaced. Productivity declines. You have a false team.
