SMART ALEC!  Not typically a desired moniker.  But I like it.  Oh, I don’t like being thought of as a hotshot, undisciplined spout off.  But I’ve been around for a long time and I know a lot.  I see things others don’t.  I guess I have become the sage on the stage.  You might be thinking of a stage as in a theater, but remember, I’m a rifle.  I am thinking of a stagecoach.  You might say, “I ride shotgun.

There will come a time when some leaders’ careers evolve into aiding others—I say evolve, not devolve.  These one-time active leaders, if they really were leaders, have valuable guidance, wisdom, and experience.  Sure, times have changed, but people have largely stayed the same.  Principles for leading them have largely remained.  If these leaders are still engaged (not retired on or away from the job), tap their contributions.  They may not hold the reins, but they can ride shotgun.
