— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership. It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all. You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above. —
AROUND US RIFLES you can’t over-communicate! Nope. What are you going to do? When? Why? How are you going to do it? Who goes where? Who goes first? What are the first steps? The second ones? Alright, let’s go over that one more time. Any questions? Okay, now you tell me the plan. Yep, you got it. Let’s go.
Something is dumb about leaders: They often communicate about big things like they are little things. If you can’t afford mess-ups, communicate, communicate, communicate! Some “leaders” think being in charge means saying it once and everyone will follow: “I’m the leader; they’ll figure it out.” Dumb! For a variety of reasons, people don’t see things the same way. No, if you want others to engage and carry out an action without error, cover it twice, or more; seek questions, request paraphrases; go over contingencies. In short, try over-communicating. I’ll bet you can’t.
