HONESTY AND INTEGRITY. Now there’s a pair to draw to. Who wouldn’t want them in one’s hand. If I was picking a handler for me as a rifle, I’d start with those characteristics.
So, how does one develop or maintain that “hand”? Begin by recognizing that honesty and integrity are greatly associated with consistency. You know—walking the talk, whenever and wherever you walk. You can’t be saying one thing while being perceived as doing another. To enhance honesty and integrity, here are some things you can do: Drive for results, build trust, assertively question bad behavior, build relationships with others, and ask for and act on feedback. Psychometrician Joseph Folkman found these in his research, and you can probably ascertain why. But doing all of them is unnecessary. Instead, get really good at three.
