IN THE MILITARY “about face” means turn to go the opposite direction. But I want to play with words: Try “face it” (head on, you know); “face to the wind” (diligence, perhaps); or, “your face” (its message). Let’s go with the last one and talk about your face.
Your face is the screen others watch to see how you are processing messages. To the one speaking the faces of listeners show how messages are being processed. Slow down; ponder that. Can a speaker—say one you are listening to—tell if you are really listening? Absolutely! If you are going to generate confidence, felt concern, deep thinking, or introspection, you have to really listen. That means really show it…with your face. Hey, don’t get stupid! Truly listen and have genuine, not fake, reactions.
