Shot 105: FREEING HABITS

— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership.  It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all.  You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.

RUDY, HABITUALLY OPENED my breach when not actively shooting.  Most others just flipped my safety to “on.”  Some asked Rudy why he troubled himself to pull my bolt action up and back.  His answer is instructive: “It’s no trouble.  I’m used to it.  Safer when the firing pin can’t contact the round.”
“I’m used to it.”  Hmmm.  Came natural because it was done often.  Nothing like a good habit to keep you on track while other things tug on your mind.  As a leader, you have much to ponder.  Develop habits to serve you so you can concentrate on other matters.  Pick patterns that serve your uniqueness, but I offer some examples:  Coming to work early, genuinely greeting everyone you meet, starting meetings on time, planning the next day’s accomplishments the day before, writing down all commitments no matter how small they are.
