–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–
STEERS CONSULT…ONLY. I guess you know that I am a farm rifle. As such, I have seen things when it comes to bulls. And I haven’t seen things when it comes to steers. The latter are not inclined to pay much interest to the herd.
Consultants, also, are not inclined to pay attention to the herd. It’s someone else’s business. They may have good advice, but awareness of the big picture, follow through, and dealing with unintended consequences, are not typically their forte. Exercise caution if a consultant provides generalized or one-size-fits-all advice. Your organization is likely unique and requires customized solutions. Here’s another line of thinking that may help you in evaluating the value of consultants. Those who can, do; those who can’t, teach. This adage does not always apply because teaching (a.k.a., consulting) is a skill onto itself. Look for skills in consulting, or you could be ineffectively steered.
