Shot 299: TRAINING

–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–

TRAINING HUH?  Well, I didn’t like it.  You see, shooting at a target over and over, gets boring; it seems unnecessary, especially when the bull’s eye is hit time after time.  But I have to admit to benefits.  Whether in a shooting contest or ridding the farm of varmints, I and my marksman usually scored and scored well.

Think of training as equipping.  Or, better, think of it as expanding.  As a leader you are then more inclined to pursue it.  (Same goes for a follower.)  Training is exercising others in what they need to be successful even when the situation is rare and the stakes are high.  Here are a few points on training that will help you be effective:  Training is not merely telling—no, training ensures the trainee can do it well when the time comes.  Training is more palatable when directed toward one’s giftedness, an opportunity, or responsibility.  Training effectiveness is increased when the participant and the trainer dialogue—what worked well, what ideas do you have, what would make it better?
