WHO WANTS ME? As I have said before, I’m a single shot .22 with adjustable front and rear sights. In other words, I’m a relic. After me, came pump-and lever-action .22’s. Then came semi-automatics, and you can even get them with precision telescopes. Them varmints don’t stand a chance.
Leaders, you and your products will be obsolete too…unless you innovate. And by that, I mean “make things better.” (You can get creative and actually make things worse.) You may have heard that the world will knock down your door to buy a better mousetrap. It’s true: Better wins! Force yourself to examine better ways to serve your customers, your community, your direct reports. Yes, force. For most leaders, innovation doesn’t come easily. Make yourself try new approaches—and don’t try, just to give them a go, but to make them work. Innovate, or plan on being a relic…soon.
