–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–
TO GO WITHOUT SOMETHING… is not pleasant. It hurts. As a single-shot small caliber rifle, I ate lots of “crow.” I accepted it and bided my time. I stayed back when big game was hunted. I ducked when speed was called for. In brief, I laid back humbly when another was the top gun. But what was the fate of the others? They are gone; I stayed and was often the preferred choice.
Leaders have to give up to go up. Yep, they sacrifice something. It might be a moment of pride or credit. It might be time when they could at home sleeping instead of adding “finishing touches” to a big project. Perhaps it’s freedom to do it “my way.” Or, maybe it’s perseverance when presented with a tough assignment or a rough boss. Here’s one that trips up many: control. Let’s be straight: If you are to go higher in responsibility or status, you will have to relinquish something. What is it for you? What is it for you now?
