— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership. It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all. You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com. —
AHHH! RUGGED INDEPENDENCE. I am impressed with those who can stand up to seemingly all situations and conquer them alone. I saw many a farmer who were that tough. Well now…hold on: I also saw when these independent souls banded together to raise a barn, harvest their crops, round up cattle, and more. What’s with independence anyway?
Good question. Let’s answer it for leaders. They need to be strong for sure. They have to have an objective—something they lead to. They need character marked by consistency, such that others want to follow them. One more: To be leading they have to have followers or others who support them. One can’t claim leadership if no one follows. You can’t go it alone and be a leader. You need be able to build relationships, collaborate, and exercise other people skills. A leader who is truly tough works with and engages others.
