— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership. It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all. You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu at www.tomnewhouse.com. —
MINING. THAT WAS TOUGH BUSINESS, and, as a common rifle, I’d not have had a taste for it. No appeal there. Day after day, digging, digging, digging, and digging. Digging in the heat, in the cold, in caverns, in unforgiving rock. Nope, as much as mining might yield big payouts, I was not a miner. Truth be told about myself, I’d probably have been a card shark hoping to claim a miner’s stake.
But one thing about miners that is instructive for leaders is their consistency. They continually did the right thing. Daily persistence. Every day they mined. Some, with that consistent effort, struck it rich. Similarly, with consistent persistence, leaders may produce great things. Without it, leaders aren’t mining: They’re gambling.
