— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership. It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all. You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above.
FOLKS TRUSTED ME because I was trustworthy. Go figure. They knew that I was a reliable rifle, though a single shot. Question: Why trust someone because they say, “Trust me”? They better have something to back up their command, right? You bettcha (as the heritage Swedes in my bailiwick, used to say). Trustworthiness before trust.
We leaders want people—even whole organizations—to trust us. So, we have to be trustworthy. That’s plenty hard given the perceptions of others. Any perceived crack and we’re doomed. And it gets harder when the systems and relationships that we foster must also declare trustworthiness. No cracks. Character in all things, gets us trusted and positioned to lead—lead willing followers, that is. And, of course, that is true leadership.
