— To follow is a bullet of wisdom on leadership. It comes from Tom’s rifle, named Shot, who has seen it all. You’ll get the drift by clicking Blog in the menu above. —
BEING CALLED THAT IS RARELY COMPLIMENTARY. It’s a term for someone who is young and inexperienced who also comes off as presumptuous and overconfident. Teddy Roosevelt was called that more than once. He challenged corruption among political bosses of both parties—the whippersnapper. I understand that he called them the “wealthy criminal class.” He earned his label.
Now, I won’t profess “whippersnapping” as leadership. Nope. But I’ve got to admire fortitude before a fortress. And I have to say that without tenacity many a problem would go unsolved and many good causes would suffer silent deaths. I will go on: Leadership often entails leading where others have not gone, and that takes a little “upstartness.” Watch the presumptuousness, but otherwise go for it.
