I’M A long barrel rifle and only a single shot. My edge was accuracy, and, indeed I better be right on, because I rarely got a chance to fire again. You might say I learned the value of shooting straight. I was respected for what I did and what I said. Folks knew that I didn’t beat around the bush or show off. I aimed carefully, sighted in my target, and delivered the goods.
So, it is for leaders. Those who tell it like it is are respected. Sure enough, they consider their audience and gauge how to communicate the message, but they are known for being forthright and honest. It’s a matter of respecting others and yourself, a key to trust. How are you going to trust someone who is known to hold back? Just what are they holding—this time, next time. Be a straight shooter. Be gracious and caring, but speak honestly and forthrightly. Anything less than full truth is partial truth. Sounds like a lie doesn’t it? Lies miss or mangle a target: they destroy something or someone.
