–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot
BLACK BEAUTY WAS A HORSE. On the farm we had lots of horses, although none were as heralded as the one from Anna Sewell’s book, Black Beauty. Sewell changed the world for horses. You see, in the late 1800’s it was fashionable to have horses hold their heads high. To force that appearance, bearing reins were used, although they produced unnatural, painful, and disruptive posture for the horses. Sewell exposed that practice; it became unacceptable.
Now, leaders, be like Anna Sewell: Expose practices that have negative function even though they look good. Now there is nothing wrong in itself with looking good, and good appearance may generate other positive benefits. But to have a practice that is all show and no substance is foolhardy and disruptive. Fake quality is not quality. Fake service is not service. Fake anything is fake. Get it‽ (BTW fake may even be disruptive.)
