–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–
DARES ARE DANGEROUS. But they can inspire positive outcomes. I once was dared to save a child from a skunk which was possibly rabid. I don’t like skunks, and the task was difficult but within my capability (at least with Rudy as my marksman).
The D.A.R.E. model for managing anxiety is not dangerous, but it may avert danger. Leaders could find value in it. See what you think. D—Defuse (or neutralize) emotions by taking away their power with an attitude of “so what” instead of “what if.” A—Allow (or accept) the feeling without fighting it. R—Run toward (or reframe) anxiety so it has positive energy. E—Engage (or focus) your attention on a task other than the one originally generating the anxiety. Leaders would do well to DARE with many anxious moments.
