Shot 340: RATS

–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot

I SHOOT RATS.  Rats are bad on a farm; they are pests and good for nothing.  I shoot them and have been known to be particularly good at it when loaded with shotshells.

Rats do have value in experimental psychology.  B.F. Skinner was big in that area, having a lot to say about operant conditioning and positive reinforcement, and he used rats to make his points.  One point was that rewarding successive approximations of a desired behavior could lead to actual repeated performance of the behavior.  Fancy that!  Good leaders also are concerned with positive reinforcement in the form of recognition.  You see, more effective leaders use recognition to their advantage: They give recognition frequently and well.  By well, it’s meant that their feedback is specific, directed toward actions (not the person), and timely (soon after the action).  Indeed, a few folks don’t like the recognition—very few.  Most soak it up, liking the boss, the organization, and doing the right thing.
