WHO NEEDS THEM? Succession plans that is. Well, it turns out that I did. In the space of a few seconds I was broken in two, useless. I was tossed in the garage not to be given another moment’s notice.
What leader needs succession plans? After all, another leader will arise when one is needed; and, furthermore, everyone knows, that a rising leader is a threat to an organization. Easy, now! All that sounds like a big ego justifying oneself. (Pardon my directness.) In fact, as a leader you can and should manage the future of your organization, and its leader is vital. Oh yes, development may result in some threats and some departures, but development is key to everyone’s satisfaction and, therefore, organizational health. Use developing leaders to make your organization stronger. Yes, plan on successors and develop them.
