THAT WAS ME. I shot straight. Well, all rifles did. Some were straight off target. But with Rudy as my marksman I was especially accurate.
As a leader you should be a straight shooter. In other words, you should be honest, direct, and reliable—of high character. Indeed, J. Folkman, doing meta-analysis, has identified 19 competencies of leadership. Chief among them is character. Character is like the long pole holding up a tent. Without character little else matters. Speak truthfully. Confront problems directly. Stand up for what you believe. Communicate all news—good and bad. Avoid promises you are not certain of keeping. There are more, but to summarize, shoot straight.
