YOU HIT IT! The target that is. Now Bull’s Eye is better. But being on target is clearly good. Being off target is bad. As a rifle, my goal was to be on—on target.
Leaders, likewise, have goals, and leaders must be on target. They must guide their organizations to staying mission-focused. They must be dedicated to achieving desired results. Stop. Leaders should do a lot of things well to reach the target, but make no mistake, unless goals are reached, all the great behaviors cited by trainers, coaches, bloggers, and other pundits are frivolous. The behaviors “should” help achieve the “must”—being on target.
