Shot 334: BITE THE BULLET

–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–

YIKES!  BULLETS! I shot bullets, albeit, one at a time.  (Remember I am a single shot rifle.)  For me they were “shorts,” “longs,” and “long rifles.”  The later were often hollow points, meaning more damage.  I shot them; I did not bite them.  Besides biting a bullet was done to distract from pain.  I, contrarily, inflicted pain.
Well, leaders there will be times when you need to bite the bullet.  Something will be difficult or unpleasant (maybe even painful) to do, but it will be time to get on with it for the good of the organization.  Consider firing a long-time employee, or laying off hundreds of employees who have been devoted, dedicated contributors.  Those are examples of hard things to do.  If a task is necessary, don’t procrastinate.  Do not get angry either, so as to justify your action.  It’s a problem, you’re a problem solver; so, act.  Sure, exercise courage, compassion, care, circumspection—whatever the situation calls for—but get going.
