DON’T SQUAT with your spurs on. See, I know something about spurs. Actually, I know a lot about spurs. They were used on the farm to “encourage” our riding horses to move faster.
Let’s look at the phrase, “don’t squat with your spurs on,” as it might apply to leaders. It’s good advice to think before acting. Your actions may cause trouble for yourself or others if you act without thinking about the outcomes. Some outcomes may be unintended. They might happen (and may hurt). With every action it is good to ask, What could go wrong? The answer may cause you to abandon the action, or to activate preventive measures, or to develop contingent measures to deal with trouble if it does emerge.
