–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–
BEYOND ORDINARY. An ordinary rifle would be nondescript. I like to think that I stood out. I was extremely accurate—could hit a gnat’s hair from a hundred yards (I think). I was faithful and always eager to perform well. Indeed, I was not ordinary.
Let me ask you this, What separates extraordinary leaders from okay leaders? Zenger and Folkman have research showing that extraordinary leaders are significantly great at three to five important competencies while not being poor at any. The point is that being extraordinary at a few things, while not poor any, makes one stand out. (Being poor at something also makes one stand out, but in a negative way.) Bottom line: Avoid fatal flaws, accept mediocrity on most things, be outstanding at a few. You’ll be extraordinary.
