–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot
PIGEONS! I loathe ‘um. They make a mess wherever they hang out—above and below, especially below. I am glad to shoot them. We farm rifles aren’t for pigeons; we aren’t pigeon-livered either, particularly when it comes to shooting pigeons.
Let’ start by defining pigeon-livered, in case that term is new to you. It is acting timidly or cowardly. It’s not good for leaders to be pigeon-livered. No, leadership takes courage, and it is seldom easy. Brené Brown in Rising Strong said it well: “You can choose courage or you can choose comfort, but you cannot choose both.” Try admitting the challenge and the fear of it, but proceeding anyway. Here’s an example: Instead of saying, “I’m too distraught to dismiss a poor performer that I originally hired,” try, “Although I am emotionally fraught and it will be difficult, I will fire the one I hired because he is not performing.”
