RUDY WAS NERVOUS. Rudy was my marksman, a farmer by trade. He was typically calm, but not in the spring. He wanted to “get the crop in.” He was dedicated to that and consumed by it. I think I know why: Unless the crop is planted nothing good can happen. In other words, although many things can affect a harvest, it surely cannot occur without planting.
Leaders, what do you need to plant, in spite of inherent hazards? Without planting there cannot be positive results. You can’t save your way to success; you must invest, take a risk. Oh, for sure, you must be smart about what to plant, when, and to what extent, and you must protect your investment. But make no mistake, planting is required.
