DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. I have felt pulled in six different directions and all at once. Yes, I have felt overwhelmed. I wasn’t much good in those situations.
Leaders get overwhelmed at times. Perhaps they have too many demands or priorities, or they lack boundaries. Maybe they are simply running on empty and need to recharge. Recharging is good, but a better solution may be to consider the reason for the feeling and what one can control, like focusing on one task at a time or compartmentalizing tasks. Taking another angle, leaders could identify stress they are causing for themselves, like over-reaching on good things, such as friends, family, health, and education. To be busy is acceptable—you can still lead. To be overwhelmed is quite another—you and everyone is rendered useless.
