SHOOTING IS WHAT I DO. As a rifle, I aim to please and to hit the target. A moving target is challenging. A camouflaged one is more challenging. And deliberate deception is the worst.
Leaders need to shoot for the best in picking teammates. Yes, teammates. (Teammates differ from coworkers—teams are not really desired in all situations.) Not everyone is well-suited for your team, but a prospect will try to come across as such. You need someone whose values fit your mission. You need someone who appreciates strengths in others, is cooperative, and shares credit. Skill is important, for sure, but team success is built on more than individual skills. Prospect evaluations, especially interviews and reference checking, need to aim at teaming attributes.
