Shot 323: UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

Below is a “bullet” of leadership wisdom from Tom’s rifle named Shot.  See all blogs at www.tomnewhouse.com—
MY BUDDY, A SHOTGUN, laughs every time he tells of someone firing him for the first time.  Newbies are shocked at his recoil.  They expect to hit something, but they get hit.  He laughs too about those who fire bird shot and find they hit something in addition to the target.  He says he’s not called a scatter gun for nothin.
Asking for feedback has many intended consequences.  One is getting information that will make you wiser.  But there are unintended consequences too.  Here’s one:  Requesting feedback will usually make you appear confident to others, especially to the one from whom you ask feedback.  It’s a positive unintended consequence, and it only occurs if you request feedback genuinely.  Confidence is a winner.  You are a winner.
