–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot–
ONE’S CYNOSURE…er, North Star. On the farm we saw the North Star night after night. We always knew where we were, but I understand that sailors of old were especially glad when they could see the North Star to know their location and where they should set sail.
Leaders should be cynosures. In other words, they should direct and guide. Followers follow (fancy that), and leaders who lack direction give them little comfort. Indeed, leaders, and their organizations, need a North Star. They should start with a vision—where headed and why. Then they should have a mission—how to operate and what to accomplish. Leaders, and thereby followers, function best with purpose and direction.
