Shot 380: I DARE YOU!

–Below is a leadership bullet from Tom’s rifle named Shot

HOW TO DO SOMETHING STUPID:   Accept a dare.  But what if the dare is to do something hard yet desirable.  Likely vulnerably is involved or there would be no dare.  Remember before when I told you about Rudy, my marksman, grabbing a bull’s nose ring.  You bet, he was vulnerable, but he faced that bull, subdued it, and got his cows milked.
Leaders, I dare you to do some hard, important things.  (Heads up: You will feel vulnerable.)  1. Confront your system.  You see, often what got you here won’t get you there.  What do those you serve need today?  2. Lead with challenges.   When the going is rough, the tough get going.  (Trite but true.)   Share the challenges… with trust.  The key to challenging others is not force, it’s trust.  Would you agree that after laying out a challenge, trust is required, though very difficult?  3. Operationalize your values.  A list of values is good but insufficient.  What behaviors demonstrate them?  3. Make culture a priority.  For people, motivation starts with their heart (will), and culture supports motivation.  What culture will you proactively build?
