RUMOR HAS IT that one cannot get enough satisfaction. Fancy that. Well, I’m mere rifle, but I like a good hunt, good marksmen, and a good cleaning. I guess I like to be satisfied, and the more the better.
Okay, leaders, let’s talk satisfaction. Employees do not respond like rats in an operant conditioning experiment. Or, do they? Immediate beats delayed satisfaction. Instant gratification wins. (The last mile is the least crowded.) Add a little immediate pleasure to actions that lead to delayed gratification. Call it reinforcement to stick with right behavior so that it delivers the desired result. Make it enjoyable. Get repeated behavior.
