I AM A THIEF! By that I mean I forfeit contentment by comparing myself to others. That slick, pump action .22 gets me the most. He’s short and, thus, easy to handle. He’s able to fire 15 shots before I even get ready to fire a second time. I must stop the comparison, at least in ways that lead to putting myself down. Such comparison robs my joy.
Leaders, stop it. Stop destroying yourself by comparing yourself to others. You should learn how others perform to gain information that you may use, but you should not compare so as to make value judgments. Value comparisons warp reality. They steal strengths. They distort vision. They commandeer commitment, resolve, and perseverance. Value comparisons are thieves. Yes, learn from what others do. But do not put yourself down.
